24 Year-old Bianca Lohbauer (Paarl) has shown the past weeks her great golfing talent.
After winning the Hermanus Open with a blistering score of 66, she also won the Paarl Club Championship for the 6th time.
The Club Champs victory was very sweet for Bianca, because she had a bet on with her mother: “If I won the club champs again, my mother Anneke (who did not play golf the last 5 years) would take up the game again. And so - I did that, and now she does not have a choice!”
Bianca’s mother Anneke has been one of the top women golfers at the Paarl Club for many years. She won the Club Champs in 2009 and represented Paarl for many years in league golf as well as the Boland Ladies team.
She also claimed the overall title at the Sanlam Cancer Challenge at SanLameer. This article was published on the website of the Sanlam Cancer Challenge:
“Paarl Golf Club’s 2009 Women’s Champion, Anneke Lohbauer topped the women’s prizes when she won both the A Division and also the overall Women’s Championship at the Sanlam Cancer Challenge Final played at San Lameer Golf Club last weekend.
Playing off an 11 handicap, the Boland player scored an amazing 80 points, 40 on each day, to pick up the A Division Trophy, 13 points ahead of 14 year-old Rochelle Brooks (6) of Walker Park, Mpumalanga.
Anneke’s 13-year old daughter, Bianca, after only playing golf for one year, won the Bronze Division of the Boland Championship earlier this month and perhaps both wins can be attributed to the pair playing at least 18 holes together every day of the recent school holiday.”
Bianca’s dad, Franz, is also a top senior golfer in the Boland. He has represented the Boland Senior Team for the last few years and also the Paarl League team.
Bianca, and old-scholar of Paarl Gimnasium, won the Paarl Club Champs 5 times as a junior and in grade 11 she was selected for the SA Junior Golf team.
After school she went to play college golf in the USA, whilst studying for her degree in mathematical science and economy.
Her dream was to play professional golf, but Covid19 changed her outlook on her career and she decided to return next year to the USA, but not as a player – she will be assistant-coach while studying for her MBA.
“I want to work in the financial sector and aim to go to Europe. I love the old cities of Europe and their culture.”
