The Paarl Golf Club through its history has always maintained an interest in the development and assistance of the junior golfers.
The juniors have traditionally come from schools in Paarl, such as Paarl Boys High, Paarl Gimnasium and Paarl Girls High.
Herewith info about some of the Paarl juniors who excelled in golf:
DAVID FROST – this old boy of Paarl Boys High became one of the best South African golfers ever. This 2-time winner of the South African Open has won 29 international and national tournaments including:
• 10 wins on the US PGA Tour;
• 6 wins on the Champions Tour;
• Team member of the winning SA team in the Dunhill Cup in 1997 and 1998;
• 3-time winner of the Million Dollar Challenge at Sun City
• Top-world golf ranking – 6th
DAWIE VAN DER WALT (Paarl Gim) He earned his junior SA colours as well as his SA full colours as amateur. After attending Lamar University in the USA he started his career as professional golfer. He has won twice on the European Tour and twice on the Sunshine Tour.
HUGO LOMBARD (Paarl Gim) Hugo represented WP Juniors and WP at the SAIPT. In 1990 he was awarded his South African colours in golf.
JACQUES BLAAUW (Paarl Gim) Jacques has been a very successful player on the Sunshine Tour with 4 wins.
